Return To The Classics With Pantone’s Color Of The Year 2020

2020 is right upon us and with every new year comes change. This year is special, though. This year we’re not only leaving a year behind. We’re leaving behind a decade. An interesting one at that. To kick off this new year (and decade), Pantone has given us a color we all can love: Classic Blue. Blues are everywhere. Sporting teams, movies, book covers.

True. All colors are everywhere. But blue seems to always pop up. It’s one of our nation’s very own chosen colors. Not only that, but blue as a color, as well as its various shades, imbue a sense of trust and comfort. It’s calming and welcoming. Now that the color for 2020 has been established, let’s look at some places and ways you can inject this classic primary color into your next home decor upgrades.

Go Big Or Go Home: Walls

Let’s be very clear. This particular shade of blue is not too bright, not too dark. It’s neither Dodger’s Stadium nor The Navy. It falls squarely in the middle. This makes it, unlike 2019’s loud Living Coral, perfect for using on your walls either in paint or wallpaper. With the 20s making their comeback, geometric shapes fit in beautifully with the Art Deco style of the 1920s that’s enjoying a rich resurgence. Small entryway? Classic Blue. New Kitchen? Classic Blue. Kid’s Playroom? Classic. Blue.

Statement Furniture

Statement pieces are going strong. Larger pieces that instantly draw the eye its way. A luxurious chaise lounge. Velvet side chairs. An entire couch. Any one of these would stand out in your living or dining room. In the bedroom, exchange that clunky old wooden bedframe for a headboard that needs no other accoutrements. This color with this design concept can’t lose.

Bathroom Floor/Tile Work

Blue most likely makes you think of water. Where do you use a lot of water? In the bathroom. It’s pretty much all water fixtures. You can opt for a classic tile look on the floor, countertops, and the walls to feel as if you stepped into the ocean. It can be solid blue with a gloss or matte finish. You could accent white tiles with this beautiful blue hue; reminiscent of the Greecian seaside.

Kitchen Cabinetry/Countertops

A blue kitchen. Can you picture it? Bright, resilient white cabinetry with blue countertops. Or floors. Or walls. Or flip it and reverse it with blue cabinets and white or gray floors and countertops. However you envision it, adding blue into your kitchen can bring a lot of calm to the chaos of cooking.

Accents

Lastly, if you’re pretty well suited in your home’s design and want a smaller, cheaper, yet effective change, you can incorporate this color into any room in your home with any of these accents. A new set of towels and mats in the bathroom. Throw pillows and blankets on your living room couch, or new curtains to trim the windows. Placemats and/or new dishes for the dining room. Containers for your countertop storage with this shade of blue not only organize, they stylize. Versatile, Inviting, Alluring. You simply can’t go wrong with a classic.
