Master Bedrooms: Fusing Space With Ingenuity

When it comes to home improvements bedrooms are probably the last place you think of renovating. Remodeling with some new sheets and bedroom suit, sure. But actually putting some cold hard cash into this box seems like a bit of a waste. Well, what if we told you it wasn’t so much what the space is as it is how you use it? It’s not the size that counts, but what you do with it. The master bedroom in particular is getting a little more attention from homeowners these days, though.

Your master bedroom is your queendom. Your personal sanctuary from all various hells that break loose on a daily basis. The power of going up to your bedroom and closing the door on the rest of the world is a beautiful thing. Master bedrooms are typically larger than all other bedrooms, but aside from providing closet space and room for a bed, what more is there to do within its four walls? Before you dismiss this notion altogether, here are some thoughts to ponder.

The Suite Life
This is a concept that has really taken off over the past few years. Master bedroom suites, with walk-in closets, a connected bathroom, and other creative uses are quite the rage. In the case where you have so much room you don’t know what to do with it, sit back and imagine what you want out of this massive room. You don’t have to expand the bedroom out, you can fill in the space with a jaw-droppingly awesome walk-in closet.

If you’re going to go this route, don’t just put up some extra walls and hanging bars. Tailor it to fit your needs. Got a lot of shoes? Steal away from Carrie Bradshaw’s dream closet Mr. Big gifted her in the Sex & The City movie. Accessories running out your ears? Build up some drawers and shelves just for those hats, bags, and scarves. If you’re going to go through the trouble of adding a stellar closet, make it work for you and harbor organization and tidiness.

Rest And Relaxation
More than anything your bedroom is where you escape to relax and recenter yourself. If you’ve got the walk-in closet, the connected master bathroom, and the largest bed on the market, and yet you still have room to spare, fill it with a meditation and yoga space. A hanging hammock for a cozy reading spot is just what the book worm craves. You can even keep your television separate from the bed and carve out a sitting area for the tv and entertainment. If the bathroom is too small for a proper vanity, take the corner for your beauty motives, complete with mirrors and lighting to get you flawlessly ready for any event.

Mixing Business With Pleasure
Extra space means you could fit a desk in there and have your own little home office. Yes, this is a possibility, but we’re going to persuade you otherwise. Many people work from home and the biggest challenge they face is keeping home life and work life separate. When you bring the office into the bedroom, it completely muddies the waters between business and pleasure. If you need a home office, find a different room, or consider a separate, mini structure in your backyard (a She-shed) instead. It may not seem like such a big deal, but combining these two drastically different functions into one room makes it harder for the brain to switch off from work and begin the much needed resetting process of rest. For extra space in your Master Bedroom, find a creative use for that space cohesive to the main purpose of this room: sanctuary.
